Bond Update from Dr. Redmon

April 28, 2022

Good Day,

The preliminary results from the bond election have come in, and the bond did not pass. As of Wednesday afternoon, 964 ballots were cast. Of those, 473 (49.1%) approved the bond measure, and 491 (50.9%) rejected the measure. There are three voting precincts in the Quilcene school district junior taxing district. From the Crocker precinct 136 voters cast ballots, 60 (44.1%) approved and 76 (55.9%) rejected. In the Coyle precinct, 215 ballots, 116 (54%) approved, 99 (46%) rejected. In the Quilcene precinct, of 613 ballots counted 297 (48.5%) approved, 316 (51.5%) rejected the bond.

Almost 60% of eligible voters participated, up from just under 50% in February. I appreciate the larger turnout and that the community let us know that our plan does not have the supermajority support that is required for a bond. It is clear that we have more work to do, and the board and I will be asking for your help in crafting the long-term facilities goals and plans to reach those goals.

Bond elections can only occur twice in a calendar year, so we as a community have some time to create a new plan that would be more acceptable to our voters.

The school board will be discussing the bond election results in our work-study session next week and in future meetings. See our website (https://www.qsd48.org/District/1216-Board-Agenda.html) the Monday before each meeting (generally the first and third Wednesdays of each month) for the upcoming agenda.

If you have any questions, comments, or would like to discuss this with me individually, please do not hesitate to set up a time for us to meet.

Thank you,

Dr. Frank Redmon
Superintendent
Quilcene School District
