School Closure Notice

March 13, 2020

Dear Rangers,

This will be the first of several communications over the coming days based on the rapidly evolving coronavirus situation.

This afternoon, Governor Inslee announced his Executive Order to close all schools from March 17 through April 24. This means the Quilcene School District will be open and operating on a regular schedule Monday, March 16th and then closed beginning Tuesday, March 17th and returning Monday April 27th

We know this raises all kinds of questions and implications including childcare needs for our staff and families, school meals, graduation, and much more. We are working on plans to address a range of impacts, and we will be in constant communication as we work through these issues.

We will be planning for an alternative model with the following services:

  • Available childcare during school hours for families who serve in critical community roles such as healthcare and first responders.
  • Available meals for children provided at school sites – details to follow
  • Available educational resources with supports for at-home learning.

We recognize this closure creates many different challenges, and our goal is to provide basic services to continue supporting our families and our community. We will continue to provide updated information over the next several days, and we would ask for your patience in submitting any questions or concerns.

QSD Employee of the Week: Faye Brown

March 09, 2020

In her position, Faye faces a variety of situations daily that would enable her to quickly turn towards the path of negativity. Nonetheless, she approaches every day and each situation with a smile and an attitude that enables the kids she works with and adults around her to also be positive.

Faye is an incredible communicator, often times paraphrasing what was said either verbally or in an email. She has used the Google spreadsheets with fidelity to track student behavior and communicate follow through.

With her growth mindset, she has approached professional development with fervor, and has then taken what she's learned and used it to directly improve student outcomes.

Simply put, Faye has been a huge positive factor since first arriving on campus, and we wanted to recognize her as such.

Congratulations and thank you for all that you do, Faye!

Employee of the Week: Cailey Snyder

March 02, 2020

Ms. Snyder routinely goes above and beyond with her commitment to build positive relationships through extracurricular involvement, including coaching multiple sports and chaperoning several dances; however, the most prominent reason she was chosen is because of the level of engagement in her classroom.

Despite students being packed into the room like a sardine can, the level of student engagement I’ve witnessed time and again in her classroom is nothing short of stellar. Through a number of techniques and personalization of learning, she has created an environment featuring various means of learning and assessment and met each student educationally where they were at. In doing so, she has created learning experiences with openings for all students.

As you see her around , please congratulate Ms. Snyder for her dedication and commitment to all students!
