While students are enrolled in PEARL, parents must be fully involved in the education of their child. As part of PEARL's partnership with families, parents:
- deliver daily lessons using curriculum provided
- monitor student progress
- help students navigate a daily schedule
- ensure students are completing their work
- assist with the grading of student work
- collaborate with the PEARL teacher
- write a monthly report
- facilitate the regular submission of work samples on a weekly basis
- provide access to needed technology and know how to use it

Indicators for success in a remote learning program are numerous. Here are some of the most important.
Awareness: parents and students understand the challenges that can come with learning at home. Having an understanding of what kind of learner each student is can help mitigate challenges and set parents and students up for success.
Parent support: parents should understand the responsibility they have in delivering daily lessons and making sure that students are ready to showcase their work on a weekly basis.
Meeting requirements: parents need to help ensure that state requirements are met, which include their student checking in once a week with their PEARL teacher, submitting work samples regularly and completing annual assessments at the district level for part time students and at the state level for full time students.
Motivated learners: students must be interested and motivated to learn at home using the materials available to them. They will need assistance from parents to navigate their curriculum, ensure proper understanding of directions and to complete their daily work.
Organization: there will be a need for parents to organize learning materials and schedules to accomplish daily, weekly, monthly and annual goals that move students through their chosen curriculum. Parents must also be prepared to meet weekly contact and monthly report deadlines.
Active participant: both parents and students will need to be active and engaged in the learning as well as in communication with their PEARL teacher.
Time: parents and students will need to make time on a daily basis for learning to take place as well as for curriculum assignments and activities to be completed.
Computer access and skills: both parents and students should have access to reliable internet and computers. Basic computer skills are also needed, like using email and navigating websites.
