Mr. Weller’s Class Rules and Expectations

Welcome Back!  This is going to be a great school year!  I want to ensure that you and all of my students are successful in my math class.  These classroom rules will help us achieve that goal.

  1. Students have the right to have their time in class be valuable and productive. For this to happen, students need to come to class prepared and ready to learn.  This means that students have their textbook, scientific or graphing calculator, paper, graph paper, writing utensils, and completed assignments that are due.  This allows class to begin promptly.
  1. All students have the right to learn in a safe environment. Therefore, students must be courteous and respectful to other students and to staff.  Insults, rumors, gossip, or put-downs of any kind are not tolerated.
  1. Students have the right to learn without disruptions or distractions. Such behavior is unfair to the other students and to the instructor. Students will remain in their seats at all times unless otherwise directed by the instructor.  With the exception of water, students are not be allowed to eat, drink or chew gum in class.  This minimizes distractions and ensures that the classroom remains a clean learning environment.
  2.  It is very important that students are in class and are able to receive instruction and assistance. It is difficult for students who leave class frequently to be successful. However, occasionally there are times when it is necessary for students to leave the classroom. For this reason, students are given two bathroom passes each quarter.  Each unused pass will be traded in for extra-credit points to the student at the end of the quarter.
  3. Students are expected to comply with all reasonable requests from the instructor in a timely manner and without disrupting the learning environment. In my classroom, we adhere to a policy of mutual respect and for taking responsibility for our own actions.

Classroom Discipline

I believe in a progressive classroom discipline policy that includes student, parents and administrators in proactively solving discipline problems. Typically, classroom discipline will follow these steps.  However, depending on the severity or frequency of the action, some steps may need to be skipped.

  1. Verbal Warning (and Lost Participation Points, if applicable)
  2. Detention and Parent Contact (and Lost Participation Points, if applicable)  [Detention is scheduled for before or after school and may require parents to make arrangements for transportation.]
  3. Administrative Intervention

Teacher Responsibilities

  • I will do my best to create a positive, productive and safe learning environment.
  • I will be ready and prepared to teach every day using a variety of methods.
  • I will do my best to meet the individual needs of my students.
  • I will be consistent and fair in following a progressive discipline procedure.
