We turn learning inside out!
Did you know that regular time outdoors helps children thrive emotionally and academically? Research shows learning in nature increases academic performance, promotes social/emotional wellbeing, as well as the love of learning.
Quilcene Preschool values high-quality early childhood education, that is why we embraced a program that takes learning outdoors. Our unique nature-based curriculum integrates the developmental needs of children 3-5 years old and Kindergarten readiness.
Class days are spent both indoor and out. With nature serving as a living classroom, children tap into all their senses through direct experiences and play resulting in greater enthusiasm and increased engagement. Activities focus on nature exploration, imagination, and the importance of our natural world. Their experiences stimulate curiosity, teach physical science, community awareness/relations, and literacy skills. Children are then able to transport their experience into the physical classroom. They exhibit increased performance in memory recall journaling, and in conducting experiments. There, children also enjoy story time with discussion/comprehension and work on skills development through art projects.
Most importantly we believe kids should be kids, and learning should not feel like learning. Children need to play and socialize. From the moment children walk through the door, or into nature, every activity is developed for them to engage in play—working out social skills, develop problem solving, language growth, and put their imagination and creativity to work. Little do these growing minds know that their increased social competence reduces stress, promotes leadership and team-work, and better behavior!
The academic school year follows the Quilcene School District school calendar.
Class is held Tuesday ( 8:30-12:30) Wednesday (9:30-1:30) Thursday (8:30-12:30).
"Time in nature is not leisure time; it's an essential investment in our children's health"
