Strategic Planning Team

September 13, 2022
Hello Rangers!

We need your help.

This year we need to review and perhaps rework our Strategic Plan deeply. Much has changed since we penned our five goals around Learning and Teaching, Communication, Technology, Facilities, and Wellness. We have learned how what we wrote in 2019 works, and what does not. For instance, PEARL's needs are not represented and our work on multi-tiered systems of support was not included, and it has become clearer that we need to specifically plan for these and other issues.

I would like to have an inclusive and representative group of students, staff, parents, and community members look closely at our current plan and create recommendations to the board for how we might adapt our plan to reflect our current needs.

To start this process, I am setting up the first of two meetings on Thursday, October 20th from 5:30 to 6:30 in the board room or via Zoom as a hybrid meeting time/date/place.

The first meeting will be to orient the attendees to the existing plan and have the affinity team (one team for each of our five goals) leaders talk about their committees, meeting times, etc. Parents, students, and community members will have the opportunity to join in scheduled meetings throughout the year for the purpose of reworking the goal areas as needed.

The second meeting, to be scheduled in the spring, will be to review the work of the affinity teams over the year and prepare a presentation for the May board meeting. I see the larger Strategic Plan team becoming mostly these affinity team members.

If you would like to participate in the initial meeting on October 20th from 5:30 to 6:30, please email Jami at jsukert@qsd48.org or call 360-765-2900 (leave a message).

See you soon,

Wilderness Adventure Club

September 09, 2022

Wednesdays 3:00 5:00 pm (3rd - 5th Grade)

Meet by the statue in the front courtyard.

Wilderness Adventure Club has been around for many years. I am thrilled to announce that we are opening the club up to 3rd – 5th grade. I have been an outdoor educator for over a decade, and I am happy to be able to provide this program here in Quilcene. Activities will include games that teach about the outdoors, wildlife tracking, survival skills, campfires, friction fire, stewardship, traditional crafting, shelter building fishing, foraging, as well as leadership, bonding, fun and adventure!

Limited snacks are provided by the Quilcene Food Bank.

I will be sending home registration forms (basically an ongoing field trip permission from).

*If I have a form on file, students are free to show up any Wednesday after school. *

Please pick up students promptly at 5:00 in front of the school. If you need to pick up a student early, call me and we can make arrangements.

We will be going off campus to outdoor destinations within walking distance. Popular locations include Worthington Park, the Community Center, the Silver Reach Preserve on the Big Quilcene River, the estuary at Quilcene Bay. We also have permission visit private lands with beautiful, forested trails here in Quilcene.

Students should be prepared for outdoor weather and have appropriate clothing. We will be going places that might not have trails so be prepared for bush whacking, pants will protect their legs. We will safely make campfires so don’t be surprised if they come back smelling like wood smoke.

Please feel free to call if you have any questions. Justin Lake

Principal's Weekly Update 8/29/22

August 30, 2022

Good Morning,

First off, I want to give a huge shout out to both our staff as well as our students for an amazing first day of school! In speaking with students throughout the day, there was a whole lot of excitement on campus in ways that I don't think we've seen since before COVID-19 began.

Next, each week I'll be sending out a Weekly Update which contains upcoming events as well as a section focused on what's happening in classrooms called the Teaching and Learning Corner. I'll also be passing on a short video where I explain the Weekly Update for those wanting a bit more detail about things.
